I am interested in the visual and behavioral patterns of domesticity. Through the process of manipulating and readdressing a visual pattern I am seeking to draw an analogy to the attempt of individuals to fit within patterns of behavioral expectations. The exaggeration, distortion, and repetition of visual pattern serve to relate to how individuals don’t fully adhere to social patterns they seek to fill. It is these points of differing from the set pattern that crates individuality and personal identity. In this body of work my material choices are closely tied to my personal experiences with social patterns as set before me in childhood. The visual patterns I am working with, specifically china, link to my familial patterns of domesticity. My work serves as an exploration of my own perceptions of those patterns as a child and how now as an adult how I am making them my own.
